There is evidence that autoimmunity contributes to multi-system organ failure in people who have developed long COVID. Some clinical characteristics of patients with moderate to severe COVID-19 are similar to those seen in autoimmune disorders. Furthermore, patients have developed well-defined autoimmune illnesses such as arthritis and Type 1 diabetes concurrently with or shortly after an acute SARS-CoV-2 infection. These findings have prompted researchers to speculate about the role of de novo autoimmunity in the aetiology of long COVID. We mapped symptoms reported for long COVID to Human Phenotype Ontology related to autoimmunity. There are totally 6 symptoms reported for autoimmunity related symptoms for long covid.
